Suitability & Assessment

It is not a test to pass or fail.

Assessment helps us understand how the child communicates, learns, manages routines and responds to support. Its purpose is to consider whether KSS has a suitable placement and the capacity to support the child at this time.

When to explore KSS

A suitability conversation may help when…

  • A large class remains difficult to access
  • Visual support and repeated practice make learning clearer
  • Strengths and difficulties are uneven
  • The child needs support to request help, wait or interact
  • Noise, change or long periods of sitting are difficult
  • Self-care and independence are still developing
  • A bridge is needed from early intervention into school

Plan safely

Tell us the real picture before the assessment

  • Communication tools such as AAC or visuals
  • Allergies, seizures or medical needs
  • Risks such as running away, self-injury or harm to others
  • Sensitivity to sound, touch or food
  • Toileting or eating support
  • Strategies that help the child feel safe
